Fare Ye well to Valley Street

It sure was and is a shock to the system, having had to make up my mind about offering my relocation of the Berlin location of the uni that was switching to teaching in English. It will be lots closer to the parents in Hannover who are obviously not getting younger. One way of processing this was to let the lovely street I called home, our stately old building get etched into my mind by sketching it (wide angle again). Perfect bench just across the street from my bacony, next to the public bath. Had set out in spring and now it is time to bid farewell to my dear and lovely neighbours who were such a support in settling in, getting me to move from sub-let rooms to an aopartment of my own in 2017 and keep me sain during the pandemic lockdowns (that will hopefully be over for good, now we are vaccinated) . So I made each of them a print and am trusting Elisabeth and Dertlef with the original.

Only IN this street will it really be fully appreciated.

Stop-Motion

We had a short reprieve during the pandemic, gingerly opening, breweries having had to destroy barrels and barrels of their produce, obviously pubs had a very tough time under the severe restrictions. But we could get some pints again. I was asked to help decorate a plastic sail, in Killian´s beer-garden and gladly helped make the place more homely. Used the occasion for another stop-motion and obviously did some research before reproducing a corner in Dalkey.

Another panorama - of the Lounge

Enchanted by the charming size of the new pub, Scholar's Lounge I tried my hand at another vista before Christmas, this time turning it into a VR panorama (again!!!). Yes it works properly in 360°.

A third living-room ...

It had been late summer that Something unimaginable happened to the expat community in Munich: a new Irish pub opened. Very small, cozy, so to speak, a good distance away from my favoured Kilian´s behind the main cathedral and town hall yet not too far to walk when Kilian´s gets totally overcrowded again on a Friday-Sunday evening. Much like the staffers there I quickly befriended the new crew and to most of us it felt like the new place was an extension (even though there appearedto be some sort of discord between the pubicans) So here comes another pub, Scholar's Lounge.

And the Shamrock, where weekly Wednesday open mics had turned into a fixed appointment to listen, support and eventually dare singing a song or two myself, soon with Margaux. Drawn one of these days as well.

USK Augsburg

National Moot in Augsburg this September was a merry affair (despite the lack of acceptable stout in town)

When in Ireland ...

Who would think of travelling to Ireland in mid-october? Well - I am glad a dear friend of mine did. Being a musician he actually packed a huge bus full of his band, friends and hangers-on (about70) and organised a lovely tour, kindly and generously inviting me along (Thank you so much again, Paul! It was unforgettable!) . The weather was perfectly indian summer and not a drop of rain in 10 days. Getting far more into music AND being guided from pub to brewery to distillery and so on - half of the time serving to simultaneously translate Hiberno-English into German for the Bavarian Group - I only found a bit of time to get my pens out when we hit Kilkenny. In a way I regret having drawn so little, yet it leaves me with an excuse to literally revisit all those lovely towns that are still stuck in my memory. So, Kilkenny Caste twice and Town Hall.

Urban Sketching Hamburg

T'was early September that the Urban Sketchers gathered in Hamburg to sketch their way through this huge port-city metropole. Was lucky in lodgings as my sister lives not too far from the central station at present and had plans elsewhere. So she generously let me use her cute studio.

Did the Town Hall on the day of arrival

and off to the nearest pub right after. Famished. Kitchen closed, not even music on. Lovely brick vault for drawing, though!

As a lover of curvilinear perspective my workshop was pretty technical, so took quite some attention and repeating Explanations and steps individually, so I was wise enough to start my own take on the picked location in the morning the same day. Magdellanterrassen. This isn´t the full 360° but a section. Far in the distance - pretty central - is the bent roof of the "Elbphilharmonie".

Took hours to draw an iconic building on the docks, Sandtorkai.
