Sitting next to the crackling fire this time, drawing my set-up and sketchblock into the sketch, rather than only emptying pints on marked coasters.
This Blog displays drawings and sketches by Henning Janssen and will mostly focus on observational drawing and urban sketching but may contain the occasional cartoon or brain-fart as well.

Arriving
Slowly getting into the new surroundings and praising my luck of having the best pub in town only a nice stroll from home (only missing the music, dayum!!!) not knowing any regulars yet seems like a good time to pass my hours sampling their Guinness with drawing. Fish eye, perched on the top seat at the bar.

New in Berlin
One should never underestimate the levels of Berlin cordiality. First meeting was actually called by a Berlin-fan from Munich I knew, old Schinkel church.
When I joined sketchers meetings, looking forward to meet some of my peers I had met annualy from the Munich national moot 2016 onward the welcome was "Wea hat n det jeneemicht, det de hier hea ziehn daafs?!" At first I had put it down for their weird type of fun and chams. Was wong though ...

Discoveries
I had checked out this place before, first time when scouting for accomodation in the fading out lock-downs. Mask-restrictions were lots more severe over summer than now. A bit over a week since I packed up and handed over keys in Munich, now. Had a tour of the area and now sampling another of the curries with Marisa. This food kept me sain when moving in and probably will, as I won´t have a kitchen for months!

Fare Ye well to Valley Street
It sure was and is a shock to the system, having had to make up my mind about offering my relocation of the Berlin location of the uni that was switching to teaching in English. It will be lots closer to the parents in Hannover who are obviously not getting younger. One way of processing this was to let the lovely street I called home, our stately old building get etched into my mind by sketching it (wide angle again). Perfect bench just across the street from my bacony, next to the public bath. Had set out in spring and now it is time to bid farewell to my dear and lovely neighbours who were such a support in settling in, getting me to move from sub-let rooms to an aopartment of my own in 2017 and keep me sain during the pandemic lockdowns (that will hopefully be over for good, now we are vaccinated) . So I made each of them a print and am trusting Elisabeth and Dertlef with the original.
Only IN this street will it really be fully appreciated.
